Hello everyone and myself,

It have been a really long time since I last blogged. I seriously cannot believe that it have been 1+ years since I started worked and my boyfriend is actually here in Singapore to acompany me. Loads of things have happened in life and I realised that I have learnt so much and grown so much throughout this whole year. Life is full of changes and changes are hard. Yet, at the same time, it had brought challenges and joy in my life.

Work Life
It all started in 22th July 2011. I stepped into the hospital that day and I did not realised how blessed I am to have one of the best senior physiotherapist to guide me throught the orientation. I was so lost and confused. There are so many things to learn that I thought I had make the wrong choice to work in this hospital. On the 2nd day, I had my list of patients passed on to me and I had my first auditing. Everything was a mess. I did not know how to handle cases, especially neuro cases. It was the first time for me to step into a Neurosurgical ward, it was difficult for me to accept the patients, not to say, to handle them well. Patients presented with all sort of disorder and I clearly remembered the first case I had was someone with ataxia. That night, my mentor stayed with me in the ward till 7.30pm to teach me all the neccessary stuffs and to help to clear my patients. I was so stressed that I thought I would just collapse. But at the same time, I was so blessed to have my mentor with me the whole time to guide me along. Coming face to face with patients with craniectomy, extra-venticular drainage, fluctuating tone was never as easy as one thought. On the 2nd week of work and the first Saturday I was working, a patient's heartbeat stopped in front of me with relatives crying outside the curtain. I have seriouly blamed myself for that although I know I should not. It was so hard for me to get over the incident. Images kept flashing in my mind and the worst thing was that my hospital required me to write a medical report, a reflective report and to discuss with me on management after that. During that whole month, I must really thank my mentor and buddy Khoo for getting me through this. I just couldn't know how I have survived. After that, I started to love Neuro, I started to love the patients. My team was so bonded that we have many events and functions together. For now, many of us have already splited, the memories together will never be forgotten. In April, I have rotated to Orthopaedics. It was a whole new experience working in a "Nursing Home" with 70% of the patients being demented and in the B1 & A class wards. It makes my life filled with interesting stories. Currently, I have just rotated to Cardiopulmonary team serving the High Dependency Unit and the surgical ward. Another challenge in life. :)

The reason

After 1 whole month of holidays, I decided to laze at home and watch drama series. This is a really good time to sit down and unwind myself. And to think through and reflect about matters.

Many people has asked me about the ways that I am going to deal with my long-distance relationship. Frankly, my brain didn't accept the fact that I am going to leave HK for long until I stepped on the plane. I left so many things behind including important documents or even, partly my heart. The feelings were strange. It was just like leaving home 3 years ago. In a wink of an eye, I am back. And it is really an irony that I need to adapt to a place which I called 'home'.

Things change in years. Buildings. Cars. Handphones. And even feelings. Perspectives. This is scary. For family, we can always be bonded because we have a similar line of blood flowing in us. And love that was showered on me all this years have brought me back to Singapore. I came back for the love of my parents. This had allowed my boyfriend and I to learn to appreciate each other so much while we are still together. The love of a youth is so precious and truth. The love from my boyfriend has been so selfless and true. He has been like my family. I really do treasure that a lot. There are many compromises and promises that we have made and that we shall keep. And I hope, with all my hearts, that everything we go smoothly as planed.

At this very moment, my throbbing headache has been preventing me from sleep. As I roll in my bed, trying to concentrate on getting into a sub-conscious state of mind, memories started to flash past my eyes. It is very hard to believe that I had finally ended my life as a student and is entering into the complicated world of adults. The place where reality haunts you, makes you leave your truthfulness and makes no excuses for you being naïve. I dream the world is like a Disneyland where everyone sees reality as a fantasy and carries a smile across their faces. I hope there is no disasters, no policies. I wish I can continue to stay in the mind of a child, at least, for a few moments each day. Maybe, everyone’s life can be a fairy tale if you learn to see the beauty that you have in life.

I admit that I have really grown a lot in the past 3 years, having to be away from your family coerced me to be independent and to be a more responsible person. Being part of the allied health team, many patients have helped me learn the preciousness of life and never to take advantages of anything that you possess. I do. And I feel I am blessed.

My graduation trips with my boyfriend and family makes me feel how loved I am. Being able to travel to beautiful places with your loved ones is the most rewarding thing that can happen in one’s life. Philippines vs Italy. The beauty of nature vs the beauty of mankind. Every little scene is so captivating. These are unforgettable trips that will stay in memory forever and ever. These trips are applauds to the glory of my student life and the start of working journey. Thanks for all who have been with you. With Love.

3 years of uni

Today is going to be my last day in my hall which I have lived for the past 3 years. Exhausted from the packing for the week, the feeling of sadness was that strong in the past few days. However, when this day finally arrives, I begin to miss this place very very much. This place has accompanied through my university days and it filled me with joy, laughter, knowledge, luck, love and loads of many memorable memories.

In this room, I have come to know 5 room mates and most of them really made my days each day after work.

Somehow, I hated farewell and I found myself in a state of denial that I am going to leave. The emotions to leave a place is too much to bear, yet, these feelings have been reappearing and reappearing throughout these 3 years. Sometimes, I just try to numb myself, to refrain from meeting too much people.

At the end of day, I really want to thanks all of my friends and family who have been part of my life. The 3 years of my university life was so fulfilling and joyous. It would never have been that good.

~Life is really like a Ferris Wheel, it never stop spinning and it gives you unbelievably surprising views of the world and people around you. When it is time for you to get off, you have no choice but to go, to allow others to see their lives, the things around them. It takes 17 minutes of this Ferris Wheel to go in a complete circle but it may take more than 70 years for me to complete my life. Undoubtedly, I have more time to stop and look at the beautiful things around me. To feel the world. To enjoy my life.

Everyone has their rights to their thinking and beliefs. Yet, people never liked to be disagreed upon. Support is something we always wanted. That makes us friends. Science always wanted consensuses. Yet, that do not means they are based on any evidences, it just comes from experiences. Nevertheless, I really do not believe much in evidence-based practice, people make up results and hence you often find Cochrane Systematic Review Database saying, "there is not enough evidence to prove that... ...". Evidences are for the police and lawyers and not so much for clinicians and doctors. We need experiences written down by our seniors, consultants and experts. Clinical research is critical but there is often too much variable among patients for a good comparison. By the way, people will continue with more and more researches (which I myself will be doing it). Well, this gives us the power! The POWER to say that this is right! The power to produce evidences that I am RIGHT in court. The POWER to justify that I am INDEED right. Experts are experts. But evidences rule above all.

Once, the environment shaped us and now, we shapes the environment. The difference is that the environment did good to us in any aspects of life but we as human, are harming the environment. This shows that humans are selfish and self-centred. We always think we are right (at least at the very first moment)and so people come up with evidences to justify our doings. The world has gone insane.

I realize I can't stay in the UK during the winter season for long because I depend on my mouth for breathing. At first, I didn't realise the reason for the discomfort over my throat every time I wakes up in the morning even when I try to hydrate myself with plenty of water. Until today, I found the reason to it when I had a really bad sore throat. I realize that my throat felt so much better closing my mouth but I couldn't do that for long as it makes me suffocate. I just found out that I have restrictive "nose" disease. I have so much difficulty breathing with my nose, I might just be another COPD patient without my mouth. It is something sad to know about. One thing, I couldn't survive long with the dry and cold air outside unless I have a humidifier with me or a sweet helping me to produce ample of saliva for lubrication. Oh well. Will my body adapt to this? Stop giving sore throats!

This is the 4th week here in oxford, amazing isn't it? Time really fly by so quickly then you can ever imagine it. Work is taking up most of my time and energy and I loved that it had. My patients today had been literally shitting all over the place. It was a disaster but it would be somethings I will be remembering for a long time. There is so much that can happen in a day that makes you end up laughing in tears.

It has been snowing the whole morning but all the snow has melted once I was dismissed from work. How I hope I can build a snowman from that! :P I hated the snow and just wanted to get some fun out of it but I missed the chance. :P

Enjoyable placement but I miss the people back at home.

I am really frustrated with the Internet service I having here. I couldn't even a photo onto the Internet! Anyway, I have great fun at the Oxford Ice Rink today. I love skating here, strong rock music with ample amount of space. I might try going to the Disco night held every Friday and Saturday night, it would be a memorable experience skating in the dark with colourful lights and blasting music. Rather than traveling to far away places, I am finding places near my accommodation and that is enjoyable for myself. I really DISLIKE being outdoor in the cold and dark.

Yesterday, I went to Blenheim palace which is currently the home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. It is set in 2100 acres of beautiful parkland surrounded by sweeping lawns, award-winning formal gardens and the great Lake. Took great pictures! Hope I can upload it here some days.

Back to work tomorrow.

Dear all,

It's marvelous. I am almost a staff now or I can actually call myself a staff. The staffs are giving more work than they are doing themselves. I have managed 7 patients in 2 hours today! That means I can actually manage 28 patients in a day. That sounds awesome. The fact that I am working hard makes me so exhausted after each day and that is a very marvelous thing as it makes me feel less lonely after work. I always want to eat and sleep. :P

I have less motivation to go traveling on weekends without my buddy around. It just seems that a memory without somebody to share with is not a complete memory. Maybe, I will go to some nearby places instead. The weather is so cold and it makes me hesitate to go to places too far away. It get so freezing cold at night! It seems like I will just freeze anytime. Oh well, this will save me some money for my graduation trip! :)

Anybody wants to go to lake district with me on the 13th of March?

London is cool as ever.

Went for the lion king musical! Awesome! I might visit London for one more time. Maybe, the hustling city is the best place to travel alone. I still love london. haha. Oxford is a cool place too. :) Adopt to the place.

Hi everyone,

It's been long since I lasted blogged. There has been so much stuffs going on about life that stopped me from blogging. I am currently in oxford, it's a real magnificent ancient place but I really didn't like the weather around here. Too cold. My face has attacked by the wind and the snow today. Bad. Snowing isn't as beautiful as I thought it would be if I was actually in the snow myself. >< Well, if you know what that means.

It's been busy at work. I worked 11 patients yesterday!(compared to 4 -5 in HK) Working environment here is really different. You spent a lot of time with the patients and the ward is so spacious and luxurious. Great facilities, patient-care etc. etc.

Went to a pub with a friend here for dinner. Had a great chat and drink. :)

Dear family and friends,

It seems like I have disappeared for quite a long time. Indeed, I have. It has been long since I find the energy and time to settle down and update my blog. I am finally done with my 2 consecutive placements and obtained good grades but it also marks the end of my student life in the hospital. I seriously need a break before school starts again. I am in need of this buffer time to re-charge myself. I NEED TO REJUVENATE!!!

Life has been so busy with me and boyfriend that we did not even have the time to spend the whole day together for the past month.

5+ months in HK as a 21 years old girl. What should I choose to do?

Studies seems to be the last priority on my list, yet, I am spending so much time on it. The world is really a chaos. Can I make time for a short holiday? X'mas?

Happy 21st Belated Birthday to all my friends who have turned 21st. I might be so busy that I forget these important dates of yours.

Whenever we are lonely, we will think of home. It is a place where we can be ourselves. Sometimes, I wonder whether this dramatic life I have in Hong Kong is merely an illusion or a major turning point in my life.

From the moment I stepped in this land of wonder, unprecedented events started to happen in my life. I accomplished things that I never believed that it would have happened.

In 2007 and 2008, academic studies and extra-curriculum activities become a major part of my life. I spent so much time studying and integrating into this environment. I come to succeed so well -- scoring straight As, winning medals, piling up records in my CV and knowing many people around me. Frankly, I had not totally get use to this lifestyle till I was Year 02. I used to tear quite a lot when I was stressed and despaired and they were the times that I wished I was not that independent.

In 2009, I begin to fall in love and it was another lifestyle change. I spent more times indulging in my love affairs rather than doing my usual routine. Yet, I believe that this is one of the most wondrous things that had ever happen in my life and had brought to me tremendous happiness. However, there is always two sides to a coin especially in a situation like mine.

Graduation would be another lifestyle change. My career, my love life and my family life. I am seriously not well-prepared and this has made me fear, troubled and de-motivated. I should learn to think more of the positive sides of things. To stay strong.

I need to admit the fact that I am really weak in cardiology and neurology. The problem lies with my lack of interest in such areas. I can only relate physiotherapy with manual physical contact. Nevertheless, I need to be more stimulated to get through this 6 weeks of placement. How I wish I was still in an outpatient setting...

Snapping Hip Syndrome

Snapping Hip Syndrome is a clinical entity that causes pain and snapping in the hip joint. There are several known causes, the most common being the iliotibial band snapping over the greater trochanter. It can also be caused by snapping of the iliopsoas tendon over the iliopectineal line, the iliofemoral ligaments over the femoral head, the long head of the biceps femoris tendon over the ischial tuberosity, as well as by certain intra-articular pathology.

The most common cause of snapping hip is when the iliotibial band slides over the greater trochanter. This is common in ballet dancers and runners. The gluteal muscles can also make a snapping sound as they go over the greater trochanter. The psoas tendon also causes snapping hip as it passes over the hip joint, producing pain with hip flexion. The question to ask is why is this happening? The psoas tendon is in the front of the hip joint, the gluteal muscles are over the hip joint, and the iliotibial band (tensor fascia lata) is on the side of the hip joint, yet all of these structures are considered part of the problem? We don't think so! The typical approach to Snapping Hip Syndrome is to blame it on overtraining and tight muscles. So anti-inflammatories and cortisone shots are given and the athlete must immediately stop training. Some people get better, some do not. The ones who avoid surgery get better. During surgery the tendons that are "tight" are lengthened. Most do not do well after this surgery. There must be a better way.

Hip joint ligament weakness causes excessive movement of the hip joint. Athletic events put tremendous strains on the hip joint, especially those sports that involve collisions. Even sports such as running put 4.5 to 5 times the body weight through the joint with each step. It would make sense that a long distance runner would eventually develop laxity in the hip joint over the years. This ligament weakness in the hip would cause excessive movement of the hip and thus the greater trochanter, since they are connected. This excessive movement of the greater trochanter would then encroach on the iliotibial band or gluteal muscles, causing a snapping sound. If the hip joint laxity caused the hip to move forward it would encroach on the psoas muscle, causing hip snapping with movement of this muscle (hip flexion). It is easier to explain Snapping Hip Syndrome as one hip problem versus three separate muscle problems. This also explains the dramatic results seen with treating Snapping Hip Syndrome with Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy is our treatment of choice for Snapping Hip Syndrome because it gets at the root cause of the problem, which is hip ligament laxity. Prolotherapy to the posterior hip capsule and ischiofemoral ligaments generally resolves the problem if the condition involves snapping of the iliotibial band or gluteal muscles, because posterior hip laxity is involved in these conditions. In psoas-muscle-related Snapping Hip Syndrome, the hip joint is moving anteriorly, encroaching on the muscle. Prolotherapy to the anterior hip ligaments, namely the iliofemoral ligament (Y ligament of Bigelow), will tighten the joint and stop the anterior protrusion of the hip. Prolotherapy is extremely effective at permanently resolving Snapping Hip Syndrome because it repairs the underlying etiology of the problem, hip ligament laxity.

This holiday

After reading travel posts written by my boyfriend, many thoughts kept running through my mind. I have always wanted to go on long-distance travel this holiday but due to the many factors involved, I had chosen to stay at home. Three weeks of travelling to the UK and Europe last summer was indeed unbelievably memorable and captivating. Travelling alone during the daytime was really a once-in-a-lifetime experience, yet, at some points in time, I long for company. I long for someone walking beside me, to share and remember this lovely trip. There was a time I really wanted to call up this French guy whom I met on the street and agree to his kind invitation to bring me around. Yet, in order to protect myself, I dropped the idea and continued to travel in a land that I had never explored.

From then, I fell in love with the parks, the weather, the mesmerising musicals, the beautiful countryside and those grand castles where kings and queens once stood. Nature, music and the ancient history had embraced my soul in the day and as I waited for the night, I had the pleasant company of my brother’s friend. For the first time, I navigated the roads alone. For the first time, I got lost in a quiet town alone. For the first time, I climbed up a castle alone. For the first time, I lay in a park alone. For the first time, I fed myself banana for dinner. For the first time, some stranger said that he liked me and tried to hold my hand.

I liked the experience travelling alone but when I was with my brother or his friend, I was much happier. I could smile, shout and share my happiness with them. I couldn’t be doing that alone. I realised I longed for company during my travel and it is with people whom I like, with people whom are really deep in my heart.

Therefore, I didn’t regret not spending time travelling this holiday. The reason is simple, people whom I long to travel with are all busy at work. I missed the time travelling with them due to a mandatory placement I need to attend in June but it is alright as long as I know everybody I love is happy.

This holiday, I have learnt to let go of some things, to accept the limitations and to suppress some of my feelings and fight for the things I want in life. To love is to sacrifice and to compromise. I need to remind myself that I am a big girl now and I hold the responsibility to stay strong and to be able to make judgments all by myself.

Special Thanks for all my love ones who had shaped me to whom I am today. This goes especially to my parents and my dearest brother. Family is the most treasured thing in my life and I hope I can continue this legacy of a strong and loving family.

21st years old

In 50 minutes time, I will be 21st years old, officially being known as a grown up adult. I thought of celebrating it with great fun and joy but somehow, I dropped the idea. Birthday should be celebrated quietly with your loved ones around you, with sheer joy and happiness that would warm your heart forever and forever. I wish it would be like that.

21 years of age has zoomed past my eyes and I never thought of myself growing into who I am today. My birthday wishes in the past years had indeed been fulfilled- to get into university and find the love of my life. These fulfilled wishes shall be the birthday gifts of my 21th birthday and they are the best presents I have ever gotten in my life. Mummy has brought me life on this very particular day and I am very blessed to arrive in this beautiful world safely and soundly, to get to know all that is around me, to love and to be loved.

There are so many ups and downs the past years but I hope these had made me grow into better individual. 2009 is the birth of another 21 year old girl. Will I be braver? Stronger? More independent? Less vulnerable?

I have this kind of feeling conquering my soul this few months and it is a feeling that I never want to experience ever in my life again. Yet, that seems to be almost impossible. Life is filled with savage, pain, sadness, desolation, despondency, dejection, sorrow, grief, unfairness and so many more words that describe the wretchedness of human beings and of our society. Luckily, there is something more to all these misery and frustration; they are love, affection, exhilaration, happiness, joy and delightfulness. Although we couldn’t control our hearts, we can control our thoughts. The thoughts to be evil, the thoughts to be sad, and the thoughts that leads us all to insanity. It is when i looked at my juniors that I realised how much I have grown. Many of them whom I once taught have grown into better-looking and smarter individuals. All of sudden, something stirred my heart, I begin to realise the feelings of our parents and teachers every time they look at us. It is of such comfort and happiness.

My Aunt has been confirmed with CA lung. I wish everything would go well. I begin to realise that my placement is just one of my trivial things in life. There is so much more to the world. I want to do everything to my best of ability. Yet, my brain couldn't function too well when I am exhausted. There are those tiny bits of things that I will miss out and that I couldn't forgive myself.

Today, everything really went real fine except for some minor things that I missed. Trivial stuffs which always kept on my mind.

New room mate= messy room + noise in the middle of the night + no toilet to use in the morning. ><

I need to re-charge! I need some back-up battery!!! Need to survive till next Thursday! :)

It's real depressing to realise that some of my patients can never get well. Chronic diseases. Chronic illness. Forever suffering. High mortality rate. May God shows mercy for them. Happiest happiest moments in life...

Semester 2 of year 2 has finally come to an end. The week of joy is also coming to an end. Things that happened these past months had been more than miraculous. Hardship plus moments after moments of joy and magic. 6 weeks of placement now lies ahead for me and it is a time in life where I got to hold on to tightly again. Time to boost myself up with energy and charge my brain up with knowledge. "All work no sleep" That's our slogan. :) Jia you to all my PT year 2 's friends.

Today's marks the last presentation of the semester and a day where I met the 教育局局長孫明揚 and reflected our hardship and fulfillment in physiotherapy. Looking back, everything was all worthwhile. It was meant to bring glory to our profession. Thanks, HKSAR government. You shown me the meaning of hardship. Later on in life, my patients would become one factor to motivate me to work hard. As for now, you have kept me on-going. And I am indeed gladful about it.

If priorities are changed, would our expectation be changed? I guess it would. It might be happening to me now. I have never felt this way before. Maybe, it is a good change. I don’t know.

In less than 2 weeks, an exam marathon which has already lasted for 2 months is going to end. In the midst, I have really been physically and mentally drained. If someone told me high school was hard, this is really pathetic. The mere fact that there is consistently a presentation, an assignment, an exam or a project waiting for one to complete each week would simply drive any individual crazy. Frustration and tiredness haunts you day and night. You can’t go out with an empty mind and free yourself from worries. For this 1+ week ahead, I am left with 2 written assignments, 1 presentation, 1 practical and 1 written exam. After that, my months of hell are over. I don’t want to think whether my time during placement is going to be worst. At least, there is a short break for me to go out with my boyfriend without him reminding and worrying for me that I still have work to do. I want peace. I want to feel energetic. I want him by my side. To feel the warm of his soul. To listen to the sound of his breath. And I wish that it would last forever and ever.

This video is stunning. It probably reminded me of every aspects of my junior college life that I once grumbled about. The assembly ground. Our hall. The studying benches. The clock. Our chemistry test paper.The classroom. The lockers. The lecture hall. It just seems so long ago and yet, so fresh in my mind. Teachers of MJC were really admirable and I hereby take this chance to thanks all again, with all my heart. I might not be who I am now without them. :)

Indeed, there is so much work to do now that it became impossible to do everything to our best of our ability. In times like these, we become frustrated with ourselves and question our ability to do the things we have chose to do. Maybe, we need to remember that nothing in the world is perfect and we are never meant to be superman or superwoman. Have times with your loved ones and never ever say that it is a waste of your time. Work is indeed eating up our energy and health but maybe that's part of life. Life of an university student of the modern world.

The beauty of being a student of our age is that we are still young and energetic. We can still survive walking around like a zombie with no sleep and food. oh well...

“I am so happy to see your smile, how I hope you were here to stay…,” Grandma said warm-heartedly. Her look was so kind and soft like a feather. It stirred my heart for that very moment in time. It jumped. It stopped. I have always sense that she likes me around but I have never heard it from her words of mouth. The feeling of something undesirable was going to happen to her was something unthinkable. I tried to be optimistic but something just does not seem right.

As I shared my French fries and continued chatting with her, I wondered the emotions that were hiding behind her smile. Maybe, she indeed told me that she had nothing to be afraid of at her age but the uncertainty that lies ahead surely does has some impact on the individual. I don’t know. I just want to pray that nothing suffering will happen. Happiness always.

Time to get back to core studying. No one would be real delighted if my results are in one way or another affected. JIA YOU! :)

I love nights like this. Chatting over the phone in the presence of my roomie. Yet, time like this doesn't really last long. In the middle of the night, she left and I was left alone. Strangely, some things just started stirring my heart. I start to miss all of you again. I am used to being alone but in nights like this, I long for a company. To get me through my study nights and listen to my groans and signs.

Bruce Protocol Maximal Treadmill Test

Bruce protocol involves a change in speed and grade of the treadmill every 3 minutes.
Procedures:
1. Warm up on treadmill at 0% gradient and a speed of 1mph for 3 mins.
2. Start test with a 10% grade incline at 1.7mph.
3. Increase grade to 12% and speed to 2.5mph after 3 minutes

Continue increasing the workloads every 3 minutes until subject reaches exhaustion or reaches 85% of the predicted max heart rate.

The following is my result! ^^
Date: 10/02/09
Finished Stage 05 ending at 11 mins and 58 sec. (limited by my calf strength ><)
Speed: 8.05km/hr with a gradient of 18%.
Anaerobic metabolism comes in the 9 mins.
VO2 reaches the maximal at around 10 mins.
Maximal Heart rate reached: 196 ^^

Unbelievably, I have entered the year 2009 -- a year which I would be entering adulthood and to be faced with loads of decision-making about my future. Nothing seems to be certain for now. Maybe, as the old saying goes, the unknown makes our lives interesting. There are so many possibilities lay ahead for me to have any concrete goals or dreams. I seriously do not know what exactly is best for me or exactly what I wish for. Stepping into adulthood is not as easy as I thought it can be, sometimes, people of my age says I think too much about life. Indeed, most people do survive without thinking, people do survive and live happily without much consideration and worries. And why am I thinking so much about my future plan? I wonder. I maybe afraid of many of the possibilities that would be happening in my life and wondering whether I have the abilities to accept them. I may, also, be in a state of denial, trying to ignore consequences of actions in order to live happily as a person. Coming home during the new year gives me time to rejuvenate and be a little girl again. Yet, in a few days time, I would be back in a world of reality, a world which I have to deal with my own cause. To think deep, I loved home and yet, I realised I have also come to get attach to the place called Hong Kong. It serves as a place for my metamorphosis. It made me grow. It helped me to discover my likes and dislikes. It made me discover the importance of home and friendship. It made understand the fight for survival and the reasons to fight for our own rights. Throughout my two years, my mindset and perspective about this place might have changed. It might be polluted and it too has beautiful hiking sites. It might be fast-paced and exhausting but I somehow realised that it goes all the same for people who are hard-working out there. The space for living might be all that confined but that gives a good start for a cosy home. The problem with Hong Kongers is that many of them just work too hard, no matter whether it is work and play. We just need to learn not to stretch ourselves to the maximal, things might turn out all fine.

The past year had been all great!
Loads of ups and downs that fulfilled my university life. :)
Having my first placement.
Flying off to Europe all by myself.
Being in touch with kind, sporty, aggressive, pervertic and muscular patients.
Being away from home for the longest period of time.
Survived few months of tremendous stress.
Getting to know great friends.

Do not miss out on golden opportunities. Things might never turn back. Times changes everything. Our minds. Our hearts. Our goals. Our dreams. School and thoughts

Sometimes, I found that young people nowadays is not viewing and valuing relationship as it should be. Out of a class of 57 people, there was a combination and permutation of 12 couples with only around 7 couples left standing. Obviously, relationships among my classmates had thereby become kind of awkward. There are people that we couldn't mention in front of the other. And for some reason, I realised I have been trying to isolate myself from the crowd recently. To try to pretend that I am oblivious to the things around me such as to get a peace of mind in school. Maybe, I am the kind that do not like to drift around with groups that I may eventually feel exhausted to be in.

My Mum had not allowed me to go out with friends on my own will until I was Secondary 3 or maybe, strictly, Junior College. To be frank, I had been telling many white lies to both my friends and family all these years in order to try to satisfy both side of the situation. No doubt, unhappiness, anger and guilt raged through my teenage years but somehow, it developed a character of independence. My Mum often tells me that's a blessing if I'm not feeling lonely when you are doing things by yourself. It had somehow greatly influenced me, now, I enjoy times alone, reflecting about life, thinking about the past, enjoying scenery, exercising... Though many of a time, I long for a company but if the right one is not along the way, I rather have myself being alone. I do not mind having less friends, the thing I mind is whether I have a true friend by my side.

Friends of yours getting into relationship with each other and broke up within months. Does this sound familiar? What do you do? Pretend that you know nothing? Pretend that nothing had happen before? Can we really pretend? As I talked to my professor the other day, he said he actually need to get news on who had been involved with who in the class so as to come up with the groupings for placement. Disastrous things can occur when matters are not taken seriously. The problem is -- I seriously do not see why relationships between lovers are viewed as such minute matters in my school compound or even, today's society in general. People go in and out of relationship within months or even weeks and days and they could dare say that they have considered it really seriously before getting together. I have thought of a few possible answer (focusing on the mentality of girls). Is it that girls are getting too desperate and even can't wait for the time to see what the guy is like before getting into a relationship? Or is it that girls find it hard rejecting guys at the initial stage? Or they want a record of the highest amount of relationship they get into?

I never got to the stage of the need to reject guys as I never allow guys that is interested in me and that I just want to-be-friend with to take and make a step further into a more-than-a-friend relationship. I had rejected invitations to meals, ignore phone calls, MSN and any unnecessary meetings with some people. I feel bad many of a time but the feeling would go as in the end if you know you are doing the right thing. Some girls don't have the ability to do that, their hearts and minds flicker and they want to try something they are very unsure of and often, the consequences do not end up well. I guess, sometimes, this kind of process can be saved from happening. It's just kind of redundant. You can call me conservative but maybe, I believe in finding the one and to build on a wonderful story together. A Cinderella dream? Some says I am naive but with belief, dreams do come true. :) I hope.

Follow our hearts. But still, we need our minds to bring it into actions. And hence, it all goes back to how well our minds trust our hearts. That trust come with risk. And in a situation like love, how much risk can we take?

P.S. Actually, for me to have a better figure, I need to suffer from muscle atrophy and I might very well drop that idea. Just need to eat less of my favourite cookies and be more perseverance in exercising. :D:D:D It's real nice to know that someone actually share the same SMILES thought with me. :) Do leave more comments. :) And click back on comments for replies. :)

Something you have made for me... ...
Each photo is written with words that truly touch my heart. Each captured every of our precious moments in this four months. Everything just zoom past so fast. I will truly miss the moments where we shared our joy, sorrow and worries. You are one of the few person where I can truly open up to, to share our most inner thoughts in the middle of the night and to cry out loud with no concerns and shame. It was indeed unforgettable being together in the past 4 months. To eat, to sleep, to wash our clothes, to groan and to get enthusiastic together. Negligence 疏忽

There are reasons I wrote this down but the reasons shall remain unknown and silence...
What constitutes negligence?
-in the case of a medical setting

The Plaintiff 原告 must establish:
1. that the defendant owed him a duty of care
2. that there was a breach of this duty of care, which amounts to a requirement to demonstrate that standard of treatment given by the defendant fell below the standard expected of him by the law, and
3. because of this sub-standard treatment the plaintiff suffered a legally-recognized harm (eg. physical injury or psychiatric illness)

What is Duty of Care?

1. Patient by virtue of his contractual relationship with his doctor (his hospital.
2. Within a public national health system, the duty arises when the patient presents for treatment and is admitted.
3. The standard of care and policy position in respect of all duties of care in tort is ask whether it would be fair, just and reasonable to impose such a duty in the given circumstances.
4. The relationship between the plaintiff and the defendant must be sufficiently 'proximate' such that harm following the defendant's actions/omissions was 'reasonably foreseeable'
5. A question of how directly a plaintiff might be affected by the behaviour of another.
6. The more likelihood of harm, the more likely it will be that a duty of care will be imposed.
7. Subject to the fairness and reasonableness of creating that duty.

Standard of care
Case example: Bolam v Friern Hospital Management Committee (1957)
"The test is the standard of teh ordinary skilled man exercising and professing to have that special skill. A man need not possess the highest expert skill at the risk of being found negligent. It is well-established law that is sufficient if he exercises the ordinary skill of an ordinary man exercising that particular art."

巨蟹座

2009年對於巨蟹座來說，會是一個過得比較辛苦、比較壓抑的年份，總是感到有些勞累和力有未殆，這種勞累感是來自於巨蟹座本身好好先生或好好小姐的天性，為了要能面面俱到，總是忠實地扮演最溫馴、最遷就他人的角色，然而卻是處處委曲自己，尤其在2009年，特別容易會被身旁的人佔便宜，整年度除了 7~8月會出現轉折之外，感覺上會是心情稍微悶一些的年份，不過，大致上還算是平順；上半年的巨蟹座對自己的未來計劃還不是那麼明朗，很多事情都很不確定要怎麼做，像是學業、工作，甚至感情都有可能會受到影響，因此，在追求自我內心的平衝及出路的同時，也多給自己一些自由呼吸的機會，做好所有準備，期盼在 2010年揚眉吐氣。

目的探讨高血压病、糖尿病与冠状动脉病变的关系.方法分析了近7年因疑诊冠心病行选择性冠状动脉造影的1430名住院病例,进行了包括高血压、糖尿病、血胆固醇、年龄、性别等情况的调查.结果冠心病患病率在糖尿病组和高血压组与对照组有显著性差异(P＜0.05).冠状动脉病变程度在糖尿病组与对照组有显著性差异(P＜0.05).提示糖尿病和高血压病为冠心病危险因素,糖尿病对冠状动脉病变程度有显著影响.结论糖尿病和高血压病均是冠心病危险因素,糖尿病对冠状动脉病变有重要影响.
